Mission has always been taken seriously at Central UCC. For decades Central Church has partnered with denominational missions, which include those of international, domestic and local in scope. The United Church of Christ was instrumental in organizing the “American Missionary Association” which was one of the first - of any Protestant Denomination - to widen its scope to overseas ministry as far back as the 1700’s. Currently the UCC supports missionaries in various forms of ministry in over 80 foreign countries do no only evangelize those peoples but also to bring humanitarian relief and a better quality of life for those who face injustice and poverty on a daily basis.

Domestically, the United Church of Christ, including Central Church, has sent countless teams to the Southeast to do hurricane rebuilding and relief work. We have for decades worked with the American Indians on various reservations throughout the United States. We have also had mission agencies in various inner cities across the U.S. to provide soup kitchens, food pantries, clothing closets, Day Care, and after school and weekend programs for inner city children and teens. In St. Louis we support of the work of the UCC Neighborhood Houses that is a national model for such ministries.

Locally Central Church is involved in many different community agencies to bring Christ’s message of humanitarian relief to many. Some examples are: our financial support, monthly canned good drives, and volunteers at the Samaritan Central, Salvation Army, Habitat For Humanity (we have adopted a house in our church neighborhood to re-build), the Rape and Abuse Crisis Center, Hospice, just to name a few.

There are any number of ways folks at Central Church may become involved in missions. Our roots are deeply planted in mission – it is what gives meaning to the church and we feel answers God’s call to be the servant church.
